Classic Builders and Hubbell Homes have been recognized as top builders in the greater Des Moines area. They are among the top 200 companies in the industry by Builder magazine.
From the Des Moines Register:
Classic Builders, by comparison, is a relative upstart. Brothers Josh and Seth Moulton started the Ankeny-based company in 2006. Siblings Katie, Aaron and Heath eventually joined the company.
Hubbell is perhaps the largest player in Des Moines-area real estate. In addition to home construction, the firm builds apartments, condos, offices, warehouses and retail space. It also conducts historic renovations, manages properties and operates CBRE/Hubbell Commercial, a commercial real estate brokerage. It has a land development company and a golf course management team.
The company has its hands in projects all over the metro from Norwalk to Newton.
Hubbell is also a major downtown player. The company is building several apartment complexes in the city’s core and is working on a 16-acre development in the East Village, while angling to buy a 75-acre parcel on the south side of downtown. Hubbell also has a contract to buy what many consider the most visible piece of downtown real estate: the Riverfront YMCA site.
Hubbell’s executives are staples in business circles around the city. Tollakson serves on numerous boards, including the Iowa Association of Business and Industry, the Downtown Community Alliance and the Des Moines Redevelopment Co.
Classic Builders, meanwhile, operates more quietly. Early on, the Moultons focused mostly on their hometown, rapidly building new houses and subdivisions on Ankeny’s booming north side.
